  • Overview

    JOB SUMMARY:  The Upholstery Technician will fabricate, repair, modify and refurbish aircraft seats, panels, sidewalls and other related components in accordance with FAA, customer and HAECO Cabin Solutions standards of quality.



    1. Measure and cut new covering materials, using patterns and measuring and cutting instruments, according to design/engineering drawings and aircraft specifications.
    2. Make, restore, or create custom upholstered products, using hand tools and knowledge of fabrics and upholstery methods.
    3. Match, adhere and fasten together materials or components using adhesives.
    4. Operate industrial sewing machines, sergers, overlocks, piping or binding machines.
    5. Operate machines to join sections of seating material (typically, leather) as well as other components into finished products used within aircraft interiors.
    6. Draw cutting lines on material following patterns, templates, sketches, or blueprints, using chalk, pencils, paint, or other methods.
    7. Measure, cut and prepare foam materials used in the upholstery process.
    8. Fit, build-up, assemble and finish seating and other upholstered components from materials fabricated and manufactured onsite.
    9. Comply with safety and company policies and use protective equipment as required.
    10. Complete special projects or other tasks as required or assigned as qualified.
    11. May be assigned to other areas of operations, based on business or customer requirements.




    1. High School diploma required.
    2. Must have experience cutting leather and fabric and covering or applying upholstery.
    3. Must have strong lay-out skills and covering experience.
    4. 2 to 3 years upholstery experience including industrial sewing experience.
    5. Experience applying various fabrics, leathers and materials for upholstery work.
    6. Working knowledge in the operation of various hand tools (spray guns, sanders, grinders, saws, drill press, sewing machines, etc.)
    7. Ability to read and follow blueprints and engineering drawings.
    8. Strong mathematical knowledge and the ability to make accurate measurements and finish projects to a high level of quality and precision.
    9. Must possess good oral, written, and organizational skills, and be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.


    1-3 years of aircraft or automotive upholstery experience.
